Description:
This is Sophie, a pretty chocolate and white boxer-pit mix, about 1 1/2 to 2 yrs old. She's very sweet, but has an injury to her front left leg; she has no use of it whatsoever. A vet who looked at it said that she has extensive nerve damage that could have resulted from getting hit by a car or by getting it caught in a fence or a trap. All the nerves under her leg were affected. He said that she needs the leg amputated. The vet thinks that Sophie's leg has been like that for a while because the muscles have already atrophied and her left leg and foot are smaller than her right leg and foot. It just hangs there.

Although she only has three working legs, she is quite active - it has not slowed her down.

Sophie is still in West Virginia, but we would like to bring her up to here to Northern Virginia as soon as possible to get her the surgery she needs.
Before we can do that we need 2 things for Sophie:

1) MOST IMPORTANT, WE NEED A LOCAL FOSTER HOME THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF HER WHILE SHE RECOVERS FROM HER SURGERY! SOPHIE LOVES HER CRATE, SO SHE SHOULD BE PRETTY EASY TO CARE FOR.
&
2) Donations to help defray the cost of the surgery.
If you would like to help our Sophie girl, PLEASE contact us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

UPDATE!!! SOPHIE HAD HER SURGERY!!!
Thanks to the wonderful doctors at
Cherrydale Veterinary Clinic in Arlington, VA
www.cherrydalevet.net/

Sophie had her surgery and is recovering beautifully. When one of our volunteers went to walk her the other day, she could not keep up with Sophie!

We are still collecting donations to pay for the surgery, but now we are getting Sophie ready for her forever home. One of our wonderful volunteers is paying for Sophie to have intensive "doggie boot camp training" for two weeks so that she will be the best canine citizen possible, and then she will be ready to be adopted. She is already a loving, crate-trained, happy dog, and soon she will have the refined manners of the cosseted dog we want her to be.
