URGENT! ~ PLEASE HELP US HELP CORY !

June 11, 2022
Cory is a beautiful 1 to 2 year old Collie/Hound Mix. This poor guy was saved from a very sad and heartbreaking situation. Our rescue found him tied to a heavy metal chain in a backyard in West Virginia in absolutely horrible condition. The owner claimed total ignorance of Cory's multiple horrendous wounds. After intense negotiations he finally agreed to sign Cory over to our rescue.

This sweet young boy has one of the worst imbedded collars we have ever seen. In addition he has, what according to the vet, is a 5 to 6 week old badly infected gunshot entry wound on his front shoulder and an equally infected exit wound on his rear hip. His medical needs will be extensive, ranging from probable amputation of one of his front legs, multiple surgeries to fix the embedded collar wounds and entry and exit wounds to medications.

We will do whatever it takes to give Cory a chance at being loved and cared for for the first time in his life.

We need your help either with a donation to defray the cost of treatment
or by offering him a foster (or forever) home where Cory will be loved and cared for and where he can recover feeling safe.

Fosters are a crucial part of any rescue organization. Good Dog! Rescue provides all of the medical treatment while the pet is in your care. You provide a temporay, safe, secure and stable environment and, most importantly, you supply lots and lots of love!

In spite of having spent his whole life on a chain in the backyard,
Cory is a very sweet tempered young boy and he gets along with other dogs. All he wants, even through his pain, is to be loved and give love back to the humans who are caring for him now.
If anyone deserves a chance at a normal and loving home, it is Cory!
After he heals, we will do everything in our power to see that he gets the Forever Home he so deserves.

Thank you for caring,
The Volunteers at Good Dog Rescue

Cory has been under the care of an experienced veterinarian since he came into GDR. We are doing everything possible to try to save his leg, but at this point it still looks like amputation may be necessary. We are following the vet's protocol, getting him well again and strong and healthy enough for surgery, and we can assure everyone that whatever Cory's medical needs are, they will be taken care of. His neck has been treated, and in between treatments Cory is staying at the home of one of our volunteers where he is being spoiled for the first time in his life and where he seems to be enjoying himself .
We will try to keep you updated on his progress as often as possible on this page.

"Heartbreaking story, found it on Craigslist. I hope you find him a good home. Poor little guy. Awful, just awful. Thank you for taking care of him."
"I just sent some $ to you for Cory, poor guy. I have a case of canned food (Verus duck and sweet potato) some toys, other dog stuff I would like to give to you. Is it possible to arrange a time to drop it off? I live in Alexandria. Please let me know. My dog can't eat the Verus food, it doesn't agree with him (I have a mini poodle). I would love to give it your rescue."

"Wish I could do more to help out. Sending prayers Cory's way!! I watch Animal Precinct all the time, and it is beyond me how people can treat poor defenseless animals in the manner such as they do. How sad!! Good luck with Cory!!"

"We are so in love with Barry (formerly Henry, a GDR dog :-) and are so grateful that you brought him into our lives... We hope that this small donation helps Cory, who will surely bring as much joy to someone's life as Barry has brought to ours.
Thanks in perpetuity

"
Please accept this donation for Cory.
I am on my second year tour in Iraq right now and came across his page online. Sometimes I wish owners like him could live in Iraq for a while. Good luck!"
***Note:
While all the caring wishes and contributions sent by caring people, warm the hearts of anyone in animal rescue and keeps their spirits going inspite of all the misery they encounter on a regular basis, this contribution is especially heartwarming!
That one of our soldiers in Iraq, where he is in danger every moment of his life and where he sees a lot of pain and misery daily, took the time to show he cares about a hurting dog in the USA, just warms the soul!
